At Surf Coast Secondary College, we welcome new students at the end of each semester.
To organise an enrolment interview, please contact the College via email (per below). We ask that you have your proof of residency and your child’s birth certificate ready to submit. Unfortunately without these documents, the College is not able to process your child’s enrolment. Please be aware that once the College has received all required documents, the enrolment process is expected to take up to a week.

Please Note : College Tours for 2023 will be available to book online as of February 2023.
Due to the limited spots available per date, we ask only one parent accompany their child for the tour. We understand this may not always be the case, so please feel free to contact the College if you require two adults to attend and we will try our best to fulfil this request.
We ask that you please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your tour at our Administration Office. Visitors are required to sign in at reception.

Please note: The Placement Policy has changed since the beginning of the 2022 school year. All enrolment decisions made from the start of Term 2, 2022 should be made in accordance with the current Placement Policy. The department’s Placement Policy embeds the legal entitlement for students to enrol at their designated neighbourhood school, and to enrol at another school if there is sufficient accommodation.
All Victorian government schools must manage enrolments in accordance with this Placement Policy, except those schools where the Minister or delegate has approved specific entry criteria, being:
- select entry high schools
- specialist schools
- English Language Schools and Centres
- camp and outdoor schools
- hospital schools and teaching units
- distance schools
- flexible learning government schools and flexible learning campuses
- any other school with entry criteria as approved by the Minister or delegate.
The Placement Policy applies to the placement of students at all year levels, from Foundation/Prep to Year 12.
Right to attend the designated neighbourhood school
Eligible children and young persons have the right to be admitted to their designated neighbourhood government school, regardless of capacity. Accordingly, all students that reside within the area of a designated neighbourhood school (referred to as a ‘school zone’) must be offered a place when seeking enrolment.
A student’s designated neighbourhood school is generally the school that is nearest the student’s permanent address as determined by the school zone. The Find My School website provides guidance on which school zone a student’s permanent residence is located within.

The department recognises that some schools may require additional capacity to accommodate students from within their school zone. In these circumstances, schools may be supported by the temporary allocation of relocatable buildings.
International students (such as those holding a dependant or temporary visa) have the legal entitlement to enrol at their designated neighbourhood school.
However, under the Education Services for Overseas Student Act 2000 (Cth), students who hold a subclass 500 student visa (a student visa in their own name) may only attend accredited government schools. The department refers to students who hold a student visa in their own name as Standard and Study Abroad students.
Given Standard and Study Abroad students are required to attend an accredited school, they may not be able to attend their closest school.

Exceptional circumstances – compassionate grounds
In exceptional circumstances, a student may be enrolled at a school on compassionate grounds. This is an overarching consideration and does not form part of the priority order of placement.
Families must be able to clearly demonstrate the exceptional circumstances which they believe make an enrolment at their designated neighbourhood school unsuitable for their child or children, citing, for example, family violence or specific wellbeing, safety, physical health and/or mental health concerns. Importantly, this is not a comprehensive list of exceptional circumstances whereby a family may seek an enrolment on compassionate grounds; each application will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
Exceptional circumstances do not include instances where the designated neighbourhood school is able to make reasonable adjustments for students with disability. Under the Disability Standards for Education 2005, education providers are legally required to make reasonable adjustments for students with disability. For examples of reasonable adjustments and further guidance, refer to: Making reasonable adjustments.
When considering an application or appeal on compassionate grounds, schools and regional staff can request that families provide further evidence. Supporting evidence may include, but is not limited to:
- legal documentation
- reports from allied health and/or medical professionals, Department of Families, Fairness and Housing Practitioners, Victoria Police, family violence services or court orders.
Matters of compassionate grounds are of a sensitive nature and may pose risks to health and life (for example, matters related to family violence). Family and student privacy must be maintained when considering applications on compassionate grounds.
Year 6 to 7 placement information packs: Guidance for parents and carers
To assist parents and carers of students transitioning to a government school in Year 7 in 2023, the department has developed information packs with guidance to support effective placement.
Two different parent/carer packs are available to download from Moving from primary to secondary school: information for parents:
- ‘Year 6 to Year 7 placement information pack 2022 to 2023: Guidance for parents and carers with Year 6 children at government schools in 2022’
- ‘Year 6 to Year 7 placement information pack 2022 to 2023: Guidance for parents and carers with Year 6 children at non-government schools (Catholic, independent and home schooling)’.
From the first week of Term 2, 2022, primary schools should distribute the placement pack for government school parents/carers to all Year 6 families. The parents/carers pack includes the current application for Year 7 placement form.

Camps, Sports & Excursion Fund
The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.
If you have a valid means-tested concession card, such as a Veterans Affairs Gold Card, Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible. There is also a special consideration category for asylum seeker and refugee families.
The payment amount this year is $225 for eligible secondary school students. Payments are made direct to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions and sporting activities for the benefit of your child.
It is important that funding made available in 2022 supports students to participate in school trips, camps and sporting activities this year rather than being held for future years. This funding can also be used in conjunction with any funding accrued from previous years. Please note these activities will only take place if they meet COVID-Safe requirements.
If you applied for CSEF through our school last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year, unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.

2022 Bus Information
Welcome to the 2022 school year. We ask families to make themselves familiar with the below information regarding students using Surf Coast Secondary College (SCSC) school bus services to ensure their children arrive at the College in time to start their day.
SCSC students have multiple bus routes which are available within our designated neighbourhood area (DNA). These services are controlled by Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and provided by McHarry’s Buslines.
A valid MYKI card or a Geelong Transit Student Pass (TSP) is essential for travel on these services and your child must carry their PTV approved College ID card while travelling on public transport. Families have the option to purchase a half or full year student pass in their area (Geelong) and may then be able to claim the DET conveyance allowance reimbursement if they meet the eligibility criteria. To determine if you are eligible or for further information on TSP and Conveyance Allowance eligibility criteria, please see here. If you are eligible, please follow these steps below:
- Complete the Conveyance Allowance form
- Take this completed form with your child’s student ID card to your local train station
- Purchase and pay for half yearly or full year MYKI card
- Return the completed Conveyance Allowance form along with your MYKI receipt to the College Administration Team for processing.
Conveyance Allowance Lodgement Dates 2022
Due to strict lodgement date criteria, late applications will be submitted in the following terms submission. Lodgements must be submitted to the college no later than 4PM on the due date listed below. Our Accounts Team will contact parents/carers regarding reimbursements once funds have been allocated to the College.
Term 2: Friday 27 May 2022
Term 3: Friday 19 August 2022
Term 4: Friday 18 November 2022

School Bus Program (SBP) Provided Services –
Anglesea and Gherang
Surf Coast Secondary College students may also be eligible for the School Bus Program. We have two (2) services which operate in the Anglesea area and one (1) which services the Gherang area. These buses are part of the School Bus Program and are provided by Coles Coaches (Anglesea) Loxton’s (Gherang). To be eligible for these services students must reside more than 4.8km from the College and be attending their closest designated neighbourhood school. Families need to complete an application to be considered for a seat on these services, seats are subject to availability. To see if your child meets the eligibility criteria please click here. Once you have determined your child’s eligibility and you would like to apply for a seat on the bus, please complete Form 1: Application for permission to travel below and email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once processed you will receive an email regarding the application outcome.
Please Note: Surf Coast Secondary College only coordinates the bus program as required by Department Education and Training (DET) and PTV. All bus services, routes and decisions regarding these buses are not controlled by the College. Surf Coast Secondary College Student ID cards have the official PTV logo displayed and are accepted as proof of concession on all public transport. Students will receive their new Student ID shortly after school photos have been taken. If your child does not have a student ID card or they do not attend photo day they will need to order a student ID (fees apply you will need to apply for a PTV student card* by using the PTV form below).
*PTV charge a $9 fee per student ID application.
