2024 Bus Information
Welcome to 2024 school year. We ask families to make themselves familiar with the below information regarding students using Surf coast Secondary College (SCSC) school bus services to ensure their children arrive at the College in time to start their day.
SCSC students have multiple bus routes available within our designated neighbourhood area (DNA). These services are controlled by Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and are a combination of public services and school bus program services (SBP)provided by McHarry’s, Coles Coaches and Loxton’s Torquay. Parents/carers are reminded it is their responsibility for getting your child to and from school.
SCSC work with the bus services to provide the best and safest options available for students and other road users to ensure students arrive to and from school safely and sometimes this may mean your child needs to travel to the safest bus stop available. We recommend checking the transport options in your area before you enrol in a school.
McHarry’s Bus Information:
McHarry’s service the Torquay, Jan Juc and surrounding areas. Students using the McHarry’s service must carry valid MYKI card or a Geelong Transit Student Pass (TSP) for travel on these services and your child must carry their PTV approved College ID card while travelling on all public transport. SBP Anglesea, Gherang and Surrounds
Surf Coast Secondary College students may also be eligible for the School Bus Program (SBP). We have two (2) services which operate in the Anglesea area and one (1) which services the Gherang area. These buses are part of the SBP and are provided by Coles Coaches (Anglesea) and Loxtons Torquay (Gherang)and are strictly by application only. Timetables and bus routes for both these services are based on a student’s location and will be assigned by the bus service provider accordingly.
To be eligible for these services students must reside more than 4.8km from the College and be attending their closest designated neighbourhood school. Families need to complete an application to travel directly to the College to be considered for a seat on these services and seats are subject to availability.
Conveyance Information
Conveyance Allowance is payable to approved families of Surf Coast Secondary students who reside more than 4.8kms from the college and who are deemed eligible according to the conditions – see eligibility details below.
Eligibility
A student may be eligible for Conveyance Allowance if they:
- attend their nearest government designated neighbourhood school (DNA)
- reside 4.8km or more by the shortest practicable route from their zoned school.
Note: Eligibility is not determined by the school it is assessed when the school completes your child’s application on the Student Conveyance Allowance System (SCAS) and is determined by your registered residential address. If approved, the allowance payable is based on the one-way distance to make the journey to and from school.
Can I use online mapping software to calculate the distance from home to school/campus attended? Online mapping software such as Google Maps and Whereis should be used as a guide only. The Student Conveyance Allowance System (SCAS) used by all schools will test a student’s eligibility thoroughly and consistently. Each school uses SCAS to record details from the conveyance allowance application forms submitted by parents/guardians. Eligibility for an allowance is not normally confirmed until late term 1 when the first claim period on SCAS opens. SCAS assists schools in determining whether the school attended is the student’s nearest (this establishes the student’s eligibility to claim from the school attended).
No private car allowance is payable if the journey to and from school could be made using a public transport service or contract school bus.
