Year 6 into Year 7 Enrolment Process

Year 6 into Year 7

We would like to welcome your family to Surf Coast Secondary College. We understand the transition from primary to secondary school can be overwhelming for families, therefore we have prepared some important dates and information regarding the transition for students from Year 6 into Year 7.

Surf Coast Secondary College delivers an additional orientation day alongside the state wide mandated orientation program.  We believe the extra day helps students build connections with staff and peers, supporting a confident and positive transition to secondary school.

All Victorian government secondary schools follow the state wide Year 6 to 7 placement timeline. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child at a Victorian government secondary school.

Applications for Year 7 open from Monday 20 April 2026.

Victorian government primary schools manage the Year 7 placement process for their Year 6 students in accordance with the timeline. At the start of Term 2, primary schools will distribute information packs to parents and carers.

What you need to do:

1. If your child attends a government primary school, they will provide a Year 6 to 7 Placement Information pack.  Alternatively, you can download the from Moving from primary to secondary school here. The pack includes guidance on the application process.

2. Submit an enrolment application by Friday 8 May 2026.

    a. If your child attends a government primary school, all communication about your child’s placement must be with the Year 6 Coordinator or Transition Coordinator at your child’s primary school until a placement is offered.

    b. If your child is home schooled or attends a non-government primary school, you may submit the application form directly to our school by Friday 8 May 2026.

3. You will receive notification of your child’s Year 7 placement offer on Wednesday 24 June 2026.

Enrolment applications submitted after Friday 8 May 2026 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Enrolment Policy.

You can find more information about applying for Year 7 placement at Moving from primary to secondary school.

  • students with a sibling attending the school at the same time
  • students seeking enrolment on compassionate grounds, in exceptional circumstances.

All students seeking enrolment at our school must meet one of the above criteria to be eligible for enrolment.

Please note if the completed, signed enrolment documents along with the above supporting documents is not provided and correct the enrolment process may be significantly delayed. If documentation cannot be provided DE may need to be involved to authorise enrolment.
